Common Questions about our Public Sushi Making Workshops

Q. What sushi do you learn to make?

Participants typically learn to prepare four types of sushi, including classic maki rolls, inside-out rolls, temari (ball-shaped sushi), and nigiri. Workshops at Pavilion Foods in Henley also include gyoza-making.

Q: Where are the public workshops held?

Workshops are hosted across London and the Home Counties, with venues in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, and Oxfordshire: Pavilion Foods (Henley), Grape Expectations (Berkhamsted), and The Front Room (High Wycombe).

Q: How much do they cost?

Tickets for workshops in High Wycombe and Berkhamsted generally range from £45–£55 per person, with group discounts available (e.g., four tickets for £135–£165). Events in Henley and Hurley are more expensive (from £90) due to the use of premium ingredients and varieties of sushi. Prices can change so please check the specific pages for details.

Q: Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Yes. Workshops can be adapted for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets, ensuring inclusivity for participants. You can inform us of your needs when you book your ticket.

Q: How far ahead should I book a public class?

Booking at least 2–3 weeks in advance is recommended, as places are limited and popular venues often sell out quickly.

Q: How authentic are the classes?

Classes are led by Tomono Davies, or one of the Tomono Sushi Party team. All of our instructurs are from Japan, and combine practical sushi-making with cultural context. They are recognised by organisations such as the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Society, which list selected events on their cultural calendars.
